Best Practices, Marketing, & Sharing:
The Keys to Our Evolution
My areas of focus have specialized in best practices and marketing libraries. It is is my firm belief that libraries (and museums) have a lot to share and learn from one another that will not only increase our individual successes, but strengthen the perception of our field as a whole. The profession is at one of the most critical crossroads it has ever seen. Our ability to unify our message, promote our services, and change the perception of what people think we offer vs. what we actually do will be crucial in deciding whether libraries will continue to play a pivotal role in our communities going forward.
Current Projects:
-
Ditching Dewey at the Cumberland Public Library. I have designed a new method that takes a 4-digit finder number with plain English labels that can be used with any ILS because the only change in the catalog is located in the call number. My team and I are in the final phases of the changeover from Dewey to the new Method and plan to make the entire plan available to any library that wishes to go from their current system to a more patron friendly layout in the summer of 2018.
